Holy crap
It took us 40 years, but strike me blind if Lordi didn't just win the Eurovision song contest.
Everyone to the Market Square on Monday! Launch the Hornets! Print t-shirts and caps! Sing the national anthem!
WE GOT MORE POINTS THAN SWEDEN!

The Eurovision song contest
A.k.a purgatory. I am deeply sorry for what I am about to say as I know that some of you are enthusiasts but seriously, that was painful. Now I remember why, exactly, I haven't watched the show in ages. Songs as interesting and easy to tell apart as bowls of porridge, at best something you'd expect to hear at 4 am on the ferry to Sweden, women who forgot to put on clothes as they left home this morning, and someone please tell the Russian guy that mullet is never, ever, under any circumstances considered a trendy hairstyle. And keep the Belgian women away from the coffee pot.
Anyhoo, go Lordi! That was worth watching even if they didn't make it to the finals.
EDIT: They made it. Yay! And a deep sigh because now I have to watch everything all over again.
Oh, and did I forget to boast? I got the job.

Good morning!
I don't have to go to work today, and what do I do? I wake up at 7 and if I already hadn't planned to meet with A, I'd be cleaning like there was no tomorrow, though among the dust bunnies I seem to have two cats living under my bed. Muska, a 15-year-old tiny female and Retu, a tom with a purr like a jet engine, both owned by my uncle and his family, are staying here until Monday. Today I've only seen a glimpse of Muska as she peeked out from under the bed when I woke up, blinking at me and clearly thinking only crazy people wake up this early.

What type of Fae are you?

"Boiled lobster red" is a healthy skin tone

Want to know how to best spend a Sunday morning? First, you need a sister who has some free tickets to the Linnanmäki amusement park. You need a friend willing to go with you (this is the easiest part) and sunshine.
Yes, my friends, summer season is now officially opened. My dear sis had other plans for today and gave me her tickets (some corporate incentive stuff, the whole park was reserved for 3 hours this morning to the clients and employees of the Tikkurila company) so me and A decided to have our weekly thesis meeting there. I even took a ride on the new ferris wheel, and while I do appreciate the view I feel that there is no need to go just that high above the ground, thank you so very much. An absolutely fantastic morning. I finally even made it to the Sea Life aquarium and five minutes into it I was promptly contemplating how big a fish tank would fit in my home. I mean, do I need a kitchen?
Two weeks to a small vacation, and after that I no longer appear on our shift lists. Does this mean I got the job, or am I being held in reserve just in case? If I score I'll have to have my holiday in June instead of July/August which I had originally requested but I don't appear on the holiday list either. AARGH! I want to know already!

Hyvää vappua!
So, it's May for the workers and the students alike. The fact has been duly celebrated by the means of an extravagant picnic in excellent company in the Kaivopuisto park with several thousands Helsinki residents. It seems to me that every year there'll be more and more food and drink. Like E said, we're only a couple of years away from putting up a pavilion, dragging a table and some chairs over there, and I wouldn't be too surprised if there was an actual butler serving us strawberries and whipped cream.Twenty years ago I spent the day marching for peace and the worker's rights with my parents, sang a few anthems and then it was time for potato salad and mead. The world changes. For better or for worse, I don't know, but change it does.
My face is sunburned and my tummy's full of delicacies. If one was to look for a downside, it almost has to be the kilogram of dust I've swallowed - dry sand paths combined with thousands of people adds up to blocked nose, sandy eyes and a funky throat. Oh well, the fun more than compensates for the sneezing.
May has to be one of my favourite months. April is strange, the first week is clearly a winter, days are short and there's still snow and then kaboom! it's 14 hours of daylight and the streets are full of confused people blinking at the suddenly appeared sun and trying to figure out a) who they are b) why are they here c) what's going on, and d) is it time to wake up yet? May, on the other hand, is almost summer. Heck, usually it's warmer than June! May is great.
I also had the job interview I mentioned a couple of weeks back. It was kinda weird because the interviewers were people I've worked with for more than 5 years but it was nevertheless a job interview. They promised to let us know the results either this week or the next so keep your fingers crossed. I'm not holding my breath as they told me that there had been plenty of applications (though I don't know how many people they interviewed) but I'm carefully optimistic. If I score I'll be promoted to a duty manager in a restaurant which will be re-opened after a long renovation in August.
