Crazy cat lady

Yes, there are two of them now.

Jalo (officially D'Manns Triton, baby pictures here) appeared on Friday the 13th, and despite the ominous date everything has gone more or less smoothly. Mimmi, poor creature, has been a textbook example of OMG WTF, and has spent the weekend running to the kitten hissing and growling, swatting him ever so carefully only to leg it away herself.

I was a bit anxious at her behaviour, but even though she has been letting the youngster know that this is her territory and he is an unwanted guest, she has not been openly threatening. She growls, but her head is turned away and her posture is relaxed which in Cat probably means that she doesn't want to hurt anyone. At least that's how I interpret it, I'm more fluent in Dog.

A couple of hours ago they chased each other, and afterwards sniffed each other's noses which ought to mean that the worst is over. I'm still contemplating on keeping them in separate rooms when I'm away at work, they haven't been alone together for more than half an hour and Mimmi doesn't realize that she's about three times the size of Jalo and plays accordingly.

My mother made me promise that I won't get any more animals. Like, what? I only have 2 cats and some fish, it's not that bad, is it?

Shameless plug

It must be utterly lame to advertise your new blog on your already existing one, but here goes.

Paratiisin murusia, a shiny new blog on medieval(ish) cooking.

I'm lame and proud of it!

Cats, babies and road accidents

"If a cat does something, we call it instinct; if we do the same thing, for the same reason, we call it intelligence." - Will Cuppy

Right. That's probably why this morning I found on my balcony one very, very annoyed bumble bee and one bewildered cat with half of her face and one front paw twice the size it would normally be - and demonstrating a complete lack of self protection as she tried to catch the insect again and again until I saw what was going on and took her indoors. Sometimes I wonder how there are any cats left in this world...

I tried to take a picture of her predicament but it seems that the modern bumble bee stocks amphetamine instead of ordinary venom as all I managed to capture was a grey blur.

Anyway, on Sunday I became a godmother as J's and G's little daughter had her very first party in honour of her brand new name. What a sweet little baby she is. I make it my business to be the one she can turn to whenever she finds she has questions too embarrasing to ask her parents. So welcome, little Eira, to this circle of friends!

On the way back from the party we witnessed a road accident as a car driver completely failed to notice a motorcyclist and promptly ran him over. Thankfully the only things truly damaged were the car and the motorbike. I think that the biggest shock was to notice how long it took for the help to arrive (or maybe it just felt that way) but once it got there by golly was it efficient! In a matter of minutes the poor biker was packed away in an ambulance, the firemen had cleaned the debris and the police had written down the eyewitnesses' accounts.

So if oy are palning to have an accidet 1) do it in Southern Finland as the help will reach you faster, and b) rest assured that they know what they are doing.

What will they think of next?

There's a long post going to happen in the near future outlining the recent tragedy of having to live without a computer for a while (the horror! the horror!), but first things first.

They've gone and turned the Luttrell Psalter into a film.

Have to say that it looks pretty interesting.

Now I had a dream a while back where E had made lamp shades out of a printed copy of the Psalter but I still don't think I should leave my day job and become a fortune teller...

Right

Time for an update, eh?

Like there'd be anything interesting going on but here goes:

1 )The cat doesn't look like this anymore,
the little ball of fluff has become a large enough animal to seize control of half the sofa.

2) Work-wise, I've reached some goals and am in charge of a small restaurant, complete with 3 underlings and all. Which is nice.

3) The sun's here again! I've always wondered whether an entire country can be bi-polar but every spring it seems more and more clear, especially after the snowless, dark, and wet winters we've had lately. And that leads nicely to the point

4) which is, that like every spring before, my inner geek gets unleashed and is allowed to run rampage which usually means a heavy-ish blow to my bank account. This time I've bought myself
- one (so far..) CD
- some gorgeous fabrics (N44, Bärnsten, and K93, Brun), which I intend to turn into this:

With the help of this:

Good old Leonfeldner Schnittbuch.

Enough for now? I'll try to blog a bit more often than what I've done in recent months ;)

And as suggested, I'll end with some musical recommendations:
Radio Aena focuses on medieval and Irish folk music.

Lurte comes from Spain, and proves that you don't have to be German to rock the bagpipes.
